Yasu
Arioka is a Japanese ceramic artist and associate professor in the product
design course at Kyoto Saga College. Currently he is working as artist-in-residence
at Sydney University, Sydney College of the Arts, a position he will hold
until March 2000. To celebrate his visit to Australia he will hold an exhibition
of the work he has completed in Sydney presenting it at the Ceramic Art
Gallery in Paddington. The dates for the exhibition are 2 – 29 February
2000. Arioka is pleased with his time in Sydney believing it to be a great
opportunity for research. He was able to organise his equipment and working
time to his own style of work, saying that the possibilities for creative
work were endless. He is pleased to be able to show the work he has made
during his stay in Australia. Working with semi-industrial processes and
in an experimental way, Arioka has created a series of sculptures and vessels.
The works are original and fresh, and will be of interest to all who are
able to come to the gallery at 120 Glenmore Road Paddington NSW 2021 Australia.
